FAIRHAVEN — Lt. Kevin Kobza reports that the Fairhaven Police Department responded to a disturbance at a home on West Island early Tuesday morning.
At approximately 4:45 a.m., Fairhaven Police responded to a home on Ebony Street for a report of a man using a hammer to try to gain entry to a sliding glass door.
Upon arrival, officers located a 56-year-old Fairhaven man who was suffering a mental health emergency. The man has a history of mental illness and is known to police.
Officers ordered the man to drop the hammer and he complied. The man then fled from police and was later located and taken by ambulance to a local hospital to undergo a mental health evaluation.
The man did not gain entry to the home and no injuries were reported during the incident.
The man will face charges likely to include Vandalism and Disorderly Conduct. The investigation remains active and ongoing. His identity is not being released at this time.
