FAIRHAVEN — Lt. Kevin Kobza reports that the Fairhaven Police Department responded to a collision involving an off-duty Fairhaven police officer and a bicyclist on Monday afternoon.
On Monday, July 29, at approximately 3:15 p.m., Fairhaven police responded to a report of a crash at the intersection of Rt. 6 and Narragansett Boulevard. Officers arrived to discover a 35-year-old man had been struck by a vehicle. The motorist, an off-duty Fairhaven police officer operating their personal Ram pickup truck, remained at the scene and was cooperative.
An on-scene investigation indicated that the cyclist rode in front of the Ram on Rt. 6 when the Ram struck the bicycle. As a matter of policy, both due to the fact that the bicyclist suffered injuries and because the crash involved an employee of the Fairhaven Police Department, the department contacted the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) to conduct an investigation.
The bicyclist was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital by ambulance. The motorist was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation.
